Hockey remains suspended per stay-at-home order
2021-01-23
Hockey season on hold until at least end of current lockdown period.
As you know, recreational hockey, which is not considered an essential service, was suspended in late December as part of a provincial initiative to help stop the spread of COVID-19. A state of emergency and stay-at-home order later imposed by the provincial government in mid-January further paused hockey for an additional 28-days.
The Township of Stone Mills, which operates Stone Mills Recreation Centre, held a meeting earlier this week to determine the status of its arena given the provincial directives. At this time, the Township has postponed any decision until the current lockdown expires. The current lockdown is scheduled to end February 11, 2021.
The Fury Executive will be meeting this week to discuss potential options should the province and OWHA deem recreational hockey can continue pending the end of the current lockdown, and should Stone Mills decide to continue arena operations. We will keep you updated on these decisions as information becomes available.
We will resume our hockey season, if and when, it is deemed safe to do so by all governing bodies.
As we have stated before, we know this is disappointing, but we must adhere to all government and public health directives to help limit the spread or COVID-19 in our communities.
We appreciate your ongoing support and understanding.
