COVID-19 Return to Hockey Safety Protocols

2020-09-30

Please review these important safety protocols before we return to the ice the week of October 5, 2020.

We are excited to begin our 2020-2021 hockey season! We know that hockey is going to look very different this year and we are committed to offering players a safe and healthy environment to develop their skills and have fun.

The Ontario Women’s Hockey Association’s (OWHA’s) Return to Hockey Framework is an incremental approach aligned with public health and government guidance. The OWHA’s Stage Modified Programming model provides for additional hockey opportunities that may include game modified play with rules that remove or avoid physical contact.

The Frontenac Fury’s Return to Hockey plan was approved by the OWHA on September 25, 2020. Our plans and protocols are informed and guided by: There are several changes required this season due to COVID-19. Players and families have a responsibility to ensure they are following all protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe return to hockey for everyone. All players and families must follow these directives.
  • Each player and parent/guardian/caregiver attending the arena must pre-screen for symptoms of COVID-19 before entering the arena.
  • Each player and parent/guardian/caregiver attending the arena must review the OWHA Health Screening Questionnaire and provide contact information for public health contact tracing purposes. Individuals who have not completed the screening questionnaire may not enter the arena or participate in any hockey activities. No exceptions will be made.
  • Only one parent/guardian/caregiver per player is permitted to enter the arena. Siblings and friends are not permitted to enter the arena. Families will need to make other arrangements.
    • For practices, the parent/guardian/caregiver can assist their player with tying skates or putting on helmets and goalie pads if required but then must leave the facility.
    • For scrimmages/games, the parent/guardian/caregiver may assist their player with tying skates or putting on helmets and goalie pads. They may watch from designated areas within the bleacher area. All other viewing areas are closed.
  • Players cannot enter the arena until 15 minutes before their scheduled ice time.
  • Players and parent/guardian/caregiver must enter using the designated entrance off Peel Street.
  • Each player and parent/guardian/caregiver attending the rink must clean their hands upon entry and exit.
  • Everyone attending the facility must wear a face covering. Players may remove their face covering once their helmet is on and they are within the ice area.
  • Players should enter the rink as fully dressed as possible (except for helmets and skates). This should happen outside the rink and/or inside your vehicle.
  • Players will have access to designated dressing rooms for tying skates and putting on goalie pads.
  • No outside food or drink is permitted.
  • Players must leave the rink no later than 15 minutes after their scheduled ice time.
At any time, the Frontenac Fury may need to modify, restrict, postpone or cancel hockey activities based on the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, and/or public health, municipal/provincial government or sport modifications/restrictions or cancellations.
