Update re impact of COVID-19 on 2019-2020 season

2020-04-07

End-of-season banquet cancelled and Annual General Meeting postponed until further notice.

As you know, Canada, which includes the Ontario Women's Hockey Association, suspended all sanctioned hockey activities in mid-March to safeguard player and participant safety in light of the emergence of COVID-19.

This meant, the Frontenac Fury Girls' Hockey Association had to suspend all practices, games and participation in end-of-season tournaments and championships. We know this is upsetting news but was the right and responsible decision given the uncertainties of COVID-19 and directives from public health officials to enforce strict physical distancing to help slow the spread of this virus. We’ve since received further communication from the OWHA in response to stepped up public health directives.

Banquet/AGM: We have had to cancel our banquet and postpone our annual general meeting, both originally scheduled for April 17. We will reschedule our AGM, likely into the fall, and will share details as they are available.

Jerseys: We would ask families hold on to your players’ jerseys. We would ask that, if you haven’t already, that you wash them (inside out) and hang to dry (no dryers please). Please carefully remove name bars if your player is not returning to the Fury or if they will be changing divisions.

Kanata Tournament: Given the cancellation of the Kanata Tournament, the association will receive a refund. We will credit all families at the time of registration for 2020-2021. If your player is not returning for 2020-2021, we will issue a refund cheque later this fall. We appreciate your patience as current banking procedures have been affected by COVID-19.

Registration 2020-2021: At this time, we do not know when we might open registration for the 2020-2021 season, or how the coming season might be affected. Again, when we have more information, we will share it with you.

Sponsors: We want to thank our amazing sponsors who supported the Fury and Fury/Crunch teams in 2019-2020. These sponsorships are critical in helping our association keep registration and operating costs low for our families. We appreciate the ongoing support of these local businesses and organizations, and we encourage you – now more than ever when many may be struggling – to support them.

Our executive is meeting virtually, as needed, during the “stay at home” order to continue planning for the upcoming season as best as we can. There are many questions and unknowns ahead and we ask for your patience and understanding.

We also want to thank all our families who are working the frontlines during this crisis – first responders, hospital and other health-care providers, grocery store workers, truckers and anyone else working as an essential service. Your willingness to help others, putting your own safety at risk, is greatly appreciated and will not soon be forgotten.
Please take care of your physical, mental and emotional health during these extraordinary times. If you find yourself in need of assistance, please reach out to local organizations which can help. A listing of food/meal programs, mental health and other supports is available on the United Way of KFL&A website.

Until we can be together again, please stay well, stay safe, stay at home.
